WINDHOEK, 05 JAN (NAMPA) - The young man accused of killing his older brother in the Otjomuise residential area of the capital on New Year's Eve, was Monday denied bail in the Katutura Magistrate's Court.
Riaan Vleermuis, 18, allegedly stabbed his brother Dennis Vleermuis, 24, with a knife in the chest after an argument broke out between them over alcohol.
The court on Monday corrected the deceased's surname to Vleermuis from Fredericks as provided by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in an earlier statement.
Prosecutor Sirka Singenge Nangoro told the court on Monday that the State objected to bail.
Magistrate Samunzala Linus Samunzala then denied the accused bail due to the seriousness of the offense.
Riaan told the court that he would seek legal aid.
He was remanded in custody for further investigations and will return to court on 23 March 2016.
Riaan’s case is one of three released Sunday as part of a NamPol national crime report in which two murders and one attempted murder were related to alcohol over New Year’s weekend.
