SWAKOPMUND, 02 JAN (NAMPA) – A 21-year-old student of the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) drowned at Long Beach on New Year’s Day.
The incident occurred on Friday at around 10h00 while he was swimming with three friends.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa confirmed the incident on Saturday.
“His body has not yet been retrieved but the sea rescue team is hard at work searching for it,” she said.
Kashuupulwa said the deceased and his friends spent the night by the sea and decided to swim in the morning. The current was however too strong, resulting in the young man drowning.
The deceased was a resident of Mondesa in Swakopmund. He studied Telecommunication Engineering at NUST, formerly known as the Polytechnic of Namibia.
