On Wednesday, the Major of the City of Windhoek Muese Kazapua, handed over N$50,000 worth of food itmes and solar lighting products donated by Standard Bank Namibia as part of the Mayoral Outreach program.

"This contribution will indeed go a long way not only in putting a smile on the faces of the beneficiaries on this Christmas, but the solar powered lights will assist families with school going children to do their homework and contribute to the reduction of shack fires in the informal settlements," the Mayor said.

As per annual tradition, the City of Windhoek handed out N$32000 to OVC centers and other families during the Switching on of the City Lights a few weeks ago.

Beneficiaries of the gifts were carefully selected by social workers and include vulnerable families from various informal settlements, most of who are unemployed, have no access to electricity and struggle to make ends meet" explained the Mayor.

The beneficiaries also include pensioners and elderly citizens.

Encouraging citizens to reflect during this holiday season and to count blessings, the Mayor emphasised that, "Chistmas is a time of giving. However, the greatest gift we could exchange is to serve one another."
