OTJIWARONGO, 21 DEC (NAMPA) – A 40-year-old woman was arrested at Otjiwarongo on Sunday in connection with the murder of her boyfriend.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Chief Operations’ Officer, Chief Inspector Levi Richter told Nampa on Monday the deceased, Petrus Kooper, succumbed to two stab wounds.
Richter said the deceased’s relatives have been informed of his death.
Kooper and his girlfriend lived together in a shack for several years in the DRC informal settlement in Otjiwarongo.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the woman and Kooper argued at approximately 02h00 in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Richter furthermore said the two had just returned from a party that was held at a relative’s house in the same informal settlement.
The police officer said both Kooper and his girlfriend were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
While arguing, they stepped outside the shack and this is where a physical fight broke out. The woman allegedly pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed Kooper twice – once in the left side of his chest and once on his right thigh.
His neighbours rushed him to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital, where a medical doctor declared him dead upon arrival.
The woman was then immediately arrested.
She is expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Police investigations continue.
