WINDHOEK, 10 DEC (NAMPA) – A 30-year-old man died instantly after he was electrocuted by a jackpot machine in the capital on 25 November 2015.
Festus Iiyambo died at about 12h00 in a bar called ‘Blue Bar Entertainment’ along Green Mountain Road in the Goreagab informal settlement while he was playing the jackpot machine.
The City Police were called to the scene and they in turn called the municipality’s electricity department to inspect the power connection to the jackpot machine.
City of Windhoek spokesperson, Joshua Amukugo told Nampa on enquiry Wednesday their electrician found that electricity to the bar was illegally connected from a house on Erf 2025, about 30 metres away.
The electrician also found that the electricity from the source house was not properly earthed/grounded, and that the electricity supply cable’s insulation was damaged, causing a leakage of the electricity current, which in turn charged the iron bars and steel frame around the jackpot machine.
The deceased was buried on 02 December. His family did not press any charges.
The owner of the house who supplied electricity illegally was given a fine of N.dollars 7 400.
