Early Christmas for Oshakati elderly

OSHAKATI, 09 DEC (NAMPA) – Some elderly residents of Oshakati on Tuesday received early Christmas gifts from the Oshakati Town Council in collaboration with two local businesses at the town.
The gifts consist of 35 mattresses and food hampers worth N.dollars 40 000.
The two businesses are Zhongmei Engineering Company, which is responsible for the construction of a bridge at the town, as well as local businessman, Remind Ekandjo of Remind Ekandjo Trading Enterprises.
Welcoming the elderly was the town’s former mayor Onesimus Shilunga, who explained that these preparations for donations were made during the year and are included in the council’s budget.
Shilunga said the initiative was done with the aim of including the elderly in the joyous celebrations and ensuring that they have a prosperous festive season.
Handing over the gifts to the elderly was new mayor Katrina Shimbulu, who also expressed gratitude towards the two businesses, saying the fact that they agreed to help the council is an indication of love and care for their elderly who are the caregivers of the younger generation.
Shimbulu said that the council in collaboration with the Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare is aiming to tackle and establish the wellbeing for the elderly.
