WINDHOEK, 08 DEC (NAMPA) – The Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy will host its third edition of the annual Sunshine Cup this week.
The cup is aimed at developing amateur boxing in Namibia and to give boxers a platform to showcase their skills.
The three-day tournament will once again take place at the A. Shipena Secondary School Hall in Katutura from Wednesday until Saturday.
Boxers from all 14 regions in Namibia are expected to participate in this competition.
The Khomas Region will go into this cup confident to defend its title won in 2014.
Shilunga Taaru from Khomas was voted as the best boxer of the tournament last year.
A statement availed to Nampa on Tuesday by the boxing stable’s promoter and chairperson, Nestor Tobias says participants from most regions already started arriving on Monday.
“This cup is important for Namibian boxing because we are not only developing our amateur boxers, but also preparing them for selection in our national teams,” said Tobias.
The statement further said preliminaries for the event will start on Wednesday, while the semi-finals are on Thursday. The finals are slated for Friday and Saturday.
Awards that are up for grabs are Best Team, Best Boxer and Most Improved Boxer.
