DONKERHOEK, 28 AUG (NAMPA) - A 33-year-old woman suffered an excruciating death after her throat was slit and she was stabbed several times by her alleged lover at the Donkerhoek suburb within Rundu on Wednesday morning.
The incident was allegedly motivated by jealousy, as the suspect apparently accused the deceased of having slept with an Angolan man previously.
The suspect fled from the scene, and attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself with a knife.
However, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) officers arrested him before he could succeed in killing himself.
The deceased has been identified as Isabel Epembe. She left behind three children.
Epembe was a resident of the Donkerhoek suburb. Her next of kin have been informed.
When this reporter arrived at the scene of the alleged crime, the deceased was lying lifeless in a pool of blood in the kitchen of her two-bedroom house. The deep wound to her slit throat and several stab wounds were clearly visible.
According to one of her relatives - who did not want to be named - the suspect allegedly briefly abandoned work on Wednesday, came home and confronted his girlfriend about where she had slept the previous night.
The source, who lived close to the deceased, said a fierce physical fight broke out between the two, also witnessed by their one-year-old twin boys.
The suspect then apparently took out a kitchen knife, slit her throat and stabbed her several times before fleeing the scene.
A large crowd of residents and passers-by flocked to witness the aftermath of the gruesome murder.
The suspect has been admitted to the Rundu Intermediary Hospital under heavy police guard. He injured himself on the throat and stomach in an attempt to end his life.
The suspect, who worked as a supervisor at the Woermann Brock Supermarket at Rundu, is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court as soon as he recovers from his injuries.
