Off-duty police officer dies in car accident

MABUSHE, 28 AUG (NAMPA) - An off-duty Namibian Police officer from Rundu died on his way to the Rundu State Hospital after the vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle on Monday.
According to the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s crime report issued to Nampa on Wednesday, the incident happened at the Mabushe village, situated some 70km east of Rundu on the Trans-Caprivi Highway.
The deceased has been identified as Enok Mukonda, a resident of the Kehemu informal settlement on the outskirts of Rundu.
The Toyota Conquest vehicle Mukonda was driving allegedly made a sudden U-turn, and collided with an oncoming Toyota Condor vehicle.
The deceased was alone in the car at the time of the accident.
In another incident, the police at Rundu are looking for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl behind the Kamunoko Combined School at Rundu on Sunday afternoon.
The suspect allegedly threatened the victim with a broken bottle and scratched her with the same bottle on her stomach, causing injuries.
NamPol’s Kavango Regional Crime Investigations’ Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton said on Wednesday that the suspect then proceeded to undress the victim, and sexually assaulted her by force.
The suspect, who is known to the victim, is still at large.
