Korean electronics giant, Samsung, is set to unveil in Kenya its Gear S2 smart watches that target tech-savvy sports and fitness enthusiasts.

Two versions of the smart watch will be launched in Nairobi on Thursday.

The regular Gear S2 watch targets sports personalities and fitness enthusiasts while the Gear S2 classic is meant for consumers who are into classical smart watch designs. The Gear S2 classic and sporty smart watches will retail at Sh40,000 and Sh30,000 respectively.

The latest high-end wearable technology devices are similar in features, save for design.

“The Samsung Gear S2 is a smart accessory device that promises to become a meaningful part of our customers’ lives. The device is symbolic of Samsung’s philosophy to push forward, embrace and explore new frontiers of technology,” said Simon Kariithi, Internet and mobile business leader, Samsung Electronics East Africa.

The sporty wearable appeals to the fitness enthusiasts because it makes it easy to keep track and record daily activities. For instance, the smart watch keeps track of the heart rate and the level of caffeine and water intake. Additionally, it keeps count of steps during a routine workout.

The face of the sporty version watch is easily customisable while the plastic wrist bands are easy to change, making it an all-event accessory.
