OKOMBAHE, 02 DEC (NAMPA) - The United Democratic Front (UDF) of Namibia has acquired two new seats in local authorities within the Erongo and Kunene regions, while also retaining most of its seats in these regions.
Confirming the achievement to Nampa on Tuesday, UDF president Apius Auchab said after the Regional and Local Authority Elections on Friday, his party acquired a new seat on both the Omaruru and Henties Bay town councils.
“We made an impact, and it is a sign that we are improving. I am very happy,” he said.
UDF now has two councillors in both Omaruru and Henties Bay, after retaining the previous seats it occupied. The party had a single seat in each of these local authorities.
The party also retained its two seats in the local authorities of Karibib, Usakos and Arandis.
They in addition retained their representation on the Walvis Bay and Swakopmund municipalities, where they have one seat each.
In the Kunene Region, the party retained three seats in the Kamanjab Village Council and two in the Outjo municipality.
UDF however lost one seat to the ruling Swapo party on the Khorixas Town Council, and now has three seats there.
Auchab said the party’s next target is the City of Windhoek where they currently have no seat.
“We are busy sensitising people for Windhoek. Next time I am sure we will make our mark”.
