WINDHOEK, 27 NOV (NAMPA) - The polling station at the Wanaheda Police Station in the Samora Machel Constituency did not close at 21h00 on Friday as expected.
Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) presiding officer, Frans Mvula extended the closing time by 20 minutes to allow some of the suspects in custody at the Wanahada police holding cells to vote.
Mvula said that it was every Namibian's democratic right to vote.
“Suspects have the same rights as everyone else in this country and when it comes to voting, nobody should be left out,” he said.
By the time the polling station closed, 909 people had voted there.
Of this amount, 906 voted in the Regional Council Election and 909 in the Local Authority Election.
The counting of results and verification commenced right after the polling station closed.
