MARIENTAL, 27 NOV (NAMPA) - Major polling stations in Mariental have been empty since midday, while other points observed have less than seven voters in queues in the 2015 Regional Council and Local Authority Elections.
Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN)’s Hardap Regional Coordinator, Isak Witbooi expressed concern over the drop in the number of voters at various polling stations in the Mariental Urban Constituency.
He said since 12h00, people stopped going to vote but would hopefully go to cast their votes later this afternoon.
He is however happy that the region has not encountered any major problems thus far.
Meanwhile, about 191 voters had cast their votes at the Mariental State Hospital before noon.
The Sacred Heart Hospice mobile polling station which opened its doors at 14h00 was also empty and only recorded four votes for the Local Authority Election and 18 for Regional Council by 16h00.
The Mariental Police Cells mobile polling team which was open from 07h00 to 13h00, recorded 276 votes for the Regional Council and 187 for Local Authority elections.
