OMUSATI REGION, 27 NOV (NAMPA) - Only Swapo party agents were present at polling stations in the Omusati Region by midday Friday.
Only four of the 12 constituencies of the Omusati Region are being contested in the Regional Council Election, after the ruling Swapo-party’s candidates emerged as the only ones contesting.
In the Local Authority race, two local authorities of Ruacana and Oshikuku are being contested by DTA of Namibia and Swapo, while the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) is contesting in Oshikuku.
Swapo party observer at the Ekangolinene polling station in the Okalongo Constituency, Christian Mwandingi said: “We only observed a few cases where people came with old voter registration cards and they were sent back to get the new voter cards. But aside from that people actually obeyed all the rules in the voting process from what we could observe”.
Party observers at the election are primarily there to observe the conduct in the entire election process on the basis of national legislation and international election standards.
Party agents do not directly prevent electoral fraud, but rather record and report such instances.
More elderly people could be seen at the polling stations earlier in the day, while the number of younger voters had increased later in the day.
By 14h00 the Nuuyoma polling station in the Oshikuku constituency was empty.
DTA of Namibia and Swapo are contesting the Local Authority Election in Oshikuku.
