Inmates vote at Hardap Correctional Facility

MARIENTAL, 27 NOV (NAMPA) - Inmates and officials at the Hardap Correctional Facility just outside Mariental, on Friday cast their votes in the 2015 Regional Council and Local Authority Elections.
Voting is underway at the facility and the process has thus far been described as running smoothly.
The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN)’s Presiding Officer, Cordalia Roman told Nampa no problems have been encountered so far and the process is still on schedule.
By 09h55, more or less 46 inmates had voted; a total of 9 025 registered voters in the Mariental Urban Constituency are expected to cast their votes Friday.
Although the overall voting process takes less than five minutes to complete, it takes some time for inmates to reach the polling stations, as they have to be brought from their cells in an orderly fashion.
Some of the voters described the voting process as being better than last year's Presidential and National Assembly Elections. They said not all inmates managed to vote last year, with some eligible voters apparently running after the election vehicles begging them to return after polling had closed.
