Polling teams leave for duty stations in Omusati Region

OUTAPI, 26 NOV (NAMPA) - Election teams that will be deployed to 94 polling stations in the Omusati Region on Thursday morning left for their respective duty stations.
The teams will be serving more than 47 000 registered voters who are expected to go to the polls on Friday for the Regional Council and Local Authority Election.
Regional Coordinator for the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) in the Omusati Region, Leonard Ndazapo said his team is ready for the election process on Friday.
“The team in Omusati is ready as I speak and we have not experienced any problems. The different teams are now leaving for their designate polling stations,” Ndazapo said.
Only four of the 12 constituencies of the Omusati Region are being contested in the Regional Council election, after the ruling Swapo Party’s candidates emerged as the only ones contesting.
In the Local Authority race, two local authorities of Ruacana and Oshikuku are being contested by DTA of Namibia and Swapo, while the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) is contesting in Oshikuku.
The constituencies, in which Swapo is also contesting are Etayi, Ogongo, Okalongo and Ruacana constituencies with DTA of Namibia; NUDO, and Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) being the other contesting parties.
The remaining constituencies of Onesi, Tsandi, Outapi, Anamulenge, Oshikuku, Elim, Okahao and Otamanzi are uncontested.
The uncontested candidates for the Swapo Party are Modestus Amuste for Oshikuku Constituency; Gerald Shiimi for Elim Constituency; Leonard Shikulo (Okahao Constituency); Titus Kanyele (Onesi); Junius Amunkele (Tsandi); Werner Kalipi ( Anamulelnge) and Fillemon Shikwambi for Outapi Constituency.
Polling Stations will open at 07h00 on Friday and close at 21h00.
