ONGWEDIVA, 23 NOV (NAMPA) – Officials of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) and Namibian Police Force (NamPol) are busy casting their votes in the Regional Council and Local Authority Elections here on Monday.
Voting started at 09h00 and ends at 19h00.
The ECN coordinator for the Ohangwena Region, Lysias Haiduwa said in a telephonic interview on Monday that this special voting is held in order to accommodate ECN and police officers who will be on duty outside their respective constituencies during the official Regional Council and Local Authority Elections that are set to take place on Friday.
Officials are expected to take along their Identity Documents (IDs); voters’ cards as well as a document (known as Form 25) which they have to collect from their respective regions and constituencies. The document authorises them to take part in the special elections.
The special elections are taking place countrywide, with one polling station available in each constituency.
Haiduwa further stated that results will be tallied immediately after the closing of the polling stations and results will be announced as soon as they are available. These results will be added to those of the official elections on 27 November.
“Voting equipment will be transported back to police stations for storage and to ensure security immediately after the whole process is completed. It will only be taken out on Friday for the official elections,” he said.
