African Models, including Namibia's Prinsloo, at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

Every year, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show brings together some of the most beautiful and highly successful fashion models to walk the runways like real runway angels for a night of glam and luxury.

For the 2015 show, 47 models walked the runways at the Lexington Avenue Armory on in New York City and lots of history was made. Like Maria Borges in her natural Afro hair on the runway, Leila Nda, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid all making their runway debuts, Lily Aldridge wore the much talked about $2 million bra, Alessandra Ambrosio walked the VS Fashion Show runway for the 14th time, and there were performances from music stars Selena Gomez, the Weeknd and Ellie Goulding.

But, this story isn’t to talk about just the annual event, but to draw focus to the 5 African models who walked the runway at this year’s fashion show. Let’s take a look at the models:

1. Maria Borges

Making her 3rd Victoria’s Secret appearance, this Angolan-born supermodel has so many reasons to smile. Rocking her natural short Afro look and looking like a million bucks, Maria brought that effortless glam to the runway.

“I believe in the power of love, diversity & friendship,” she shared on Instagram walking alongside fellow model Gigi Hadid. “I am thankful to God for making my 3rd Victoria’s Secret appearance a moment that would help women around the world to embrace their natural beauty,” she added.

2. Sharam Diniz

Winner of Ford Supermodel Portugal 2009, Sharam Diniz is another stunning African model who rocked the runways at the 2015 fashion show. The Angolan-Portuguese model made her 2nd appearance on the runways and she looked so divine.

3. Candice Swanepoel

Appearing in her 9th show and leading the pack is South African model Candice Swanepoel. Officially the only African model to have ever worn the Royal Fantasy Bra worth $10,000,000, Candice’s one of the few supermodels we have out of Africa modeling doing amazing things on the international stage.

4. Leila Nda

Currently signed to IMM Bruxelles in Brussels, Leila Nda is a young beauty born in Burundi. Apart from modeling, Leila is also a lawyer after getting a law degree from the University of Libres in Brussels.

Rocking a cowgirl–inspired look and paired with an over-the-knee high heels, Leila looked stunning as she marched down the runway showing off her killer figure.

5. Behati Prinsloo

Born and raised in Namibia, Behati Prinsloo is smart, beautiful and super funny. Signed to Storm Model Management, London, Behati first became the face of Victoria’s Secret sub-brand “Pink” and moved on to become a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2009.

This is Behati’s 9th appearance at the VSFS, and what an amazing career she has had so far, one that started after she got discovered by Storm Model Management founder Sarah Doukas.
