RUNDU, 10 NOV (NAMPA) - About 50 runners took part in a five kilometre road race here on Saturday.
Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) last year took over from Old Mutual as the main sponsor of the annual competition.
As part of their rewards, the winners of the various categories will take part in the 2016 Sam Nujoma Half-Marathon.
Joseph Likuwa, who won the veterans’ category, told Nampa after the race that it is always good if competitions like this are organised annually to uplift athletes in the regions.
“But the organisers should reward the winners with cash prizes to motivate the youngsters,” he said.
The overall winners in the junior girls’ and boys’ categories were Selma Sipapo and Mathew Likoro, respectively, while the overall winner in the senior category was Fidelius Linyando.
The winners in the junior and senior categories were rewarded with medals and trophies, while the winner in the veteran category received a Samsung smartphone.
