OTJIWARONGO, 03 NOV (NAMPA) – Four people died instantly on Tuesday morning when an Isuzu pick-up they were travelling in collided head on with an oncoming truck on the Okahandja-Otjiwarongo road.
The accident occurred some 32 kilometres north of Okahandja shortly after 05h00.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Okahandja Detective Inspector, Reinhard Maletsky told Nampa at the scene the Isuzu double-cab was travelling from Okahandja to Otjiwarongo.
“The four occupants of the Isuzu, including the diver, died on the spot,” he said.
Maletsky said the silver Isuzu was found stuck underneath the white truck that carried a variety of vegetable goods from Farm Soetwater in the Grootfontein district to Windhoek in the Khomas Region.
The driver of the truck and passenger sustained serious injuries, and were taken to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital in the capital.
“The names of deceased persons – three female adults and one male - cannot be revealed now as their next of kin are yet to be informed,” Maletsky said.
The cause of the head on collision is unknown and police investigations into the matter continue.
