Baby girl dumped in well near Tsandi

OUTAPI, 03 NOV (NAMPA) -



The police in the Omusati Region are asking for assistance in apprehending the mother of a baby girl discovered in a well at Ontanda village in the Tsandi Constituency on Sunday.



The spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the region, Warrant Officer Lineekela Shikongo told Nampa on Monday a villager who had taken his livestock to drink from the well discovered the lifeless body of the newborn baby girl.



The police suspect that the baby was left there between Friday and Sunday. It is thought that she was alive when her mother left her in the well, and drowned.



"The villager alerted the police," Shikongo said. The body of the baby has been taken to the police mortuary at Okahao for a post-mortem to be conducted. The police are attempting to track down the mother.



"We are also requesting the community to assist in furnishing information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect," Shikongo stated. A case of murder and concealment of birth has been registered with the police at Tsandi village. (NAMPA) NN/AS
