SWAKOPMUND, 29 OCT (NAMPA) ? The Vrolike Hartjies (Merry Hearts) Kindergarten at the Uis settlement in the Erongo Region on Wednesday received N.dollars 30 000 from the Swakop Uranium Foundation. Erongo Regional Governor, Cleophas Mutjavikua identified this community kindergarten following a request by Swakop Uranium for him to identify a beneficiary. Speaking at the handing-over ceremony in Swakopmund, Mutjavikua said the money was collected from the Husab Marathon held in September this year and organised by Swakop Uranium. The kindergarten accommodates 60 toddlers most of whom are underprivileged. Mutjavikua noted that N.dollars 8 000 will be used to paint the kindergarten building, buy two toilet doors and three toilet bowls, while N.dollars 7 000 will be used to buy educational toys. The remaining N.dollars 15 000 is for food. ?We want our rural children also to have proper toys so that they can be creative when they grow up. I appreciate the gesture from Swakop Uranium and I look forward to more,? said the governor. On his part, Swakop Uranium?s Vice-President: Human Resources and Business Support, Percy McCallum said the company is committed to meeting Government halfway in supporting education. ?By providing quality education from pre-school to tertiary level, we enable the youth to have successful careers and contribute to economic development. That is only possible with the support of the private sector, as Government alone cannot meet the enormous education needs,? said McCallum. Vrolike Hartjies Chairperson, Katrina Garises said as she received the cheque: ?I have no better words to thank you for what you did for our children. We have been waiting for a Good Samaritan to assist us, and you did that?. The kindergarten, however, still needs electricity and water. Currently, children bring water from home to drink at school. Uis is located approximately 80 kilometres northeast of Henties Bay in the Erongo Region. (NAMPA) PKS/ND/LI
