Cape Town - Lonely Planet has released the best world destinations for travel in 2016, naming South Africa’s neighbour, Botswana, as the number one destination in the world to travel to in 2016.
Lonely Planet describes Botswana as “progressive, enlightened – but above all, invigoratingly wild.”
Botswana also celebrates 50 years of independence in 2016.
To make travel in the safari-famed country more accessible, Botswana is currently in the process of launching direct flights out of Africa to and from its capital, Gabarone, says Lonely Planet. Currently, direct flights from Sir Seretse Khama International Airport only operate non-stop flights to and from other African countries.
The planned inter-continental flights are set to take off within the next six months, says Lonely Planet.
Lonely Planet experts compiled the top ten list by taking all popular currents trends, note-worthy revivals and events taking place in the countries next year into consideration.
