Windhoek teacher arrested for alleged rape of learner

WINDHOEK, 25 OCT (NAMPA) - A Windhoek teacher was arrested here on Friday for allegedly raping a learner at the People’s Primary School in Katutura.
The spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi told a media briefing in the capital on Sunday the 34-year-old suspect was arrested by members of the police's Gender-based Violence and Protection Unit on Friday afternoon.
The suspect apparently turned himself in at the office of NamPol's Gender-based Violence and Protection Unit at the Katutura State Hospital upon hearing that he is being investigated by the police in connection with the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl at his school.
He was then arrested.
The suspect allegedly repeatedly raped the girl between May and October this year.
He is scheduled to make his first appearance in the Katutura Magistrate's Court along Mungunda Street on Monday morning.
Police investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the matter continue.
