OSHAKATI, 22 OCT (NAMPA) The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) will contest the Regional Council Election in 11 of the Ohangwena Regions 12 constituencies.
RDP Secretary in that region, Timo Shikongo confirmed this to Nampa on Monday.
The Ohangwena Region now has 12 constituencies, following the creation of the new Oshikunde Constituency by the last delimitation commission.
Shikongo said it is only in the Epembe Constituency where the RDP will not participate, because the party has not yet put up structures there.
The RDP will thus contest the Okongo, Oshikunde, Omundaungilo, Eenhana, Ondobe, Omulonga, Oshikango, Ohangwena, Engela, Ongenga and Endola constituencies during elections on 27 November 2015.
The partys candidates are Valdheim Kanalelo (Okongo), Martin Hailonga (Oshikunde), Jason Haufiku (Omundaungilo), Johannes David (Eenhana), Leevi Shifoleni (Ondobe), Jona Tomas (Omulonga), Jeremia Haufiku (Ohangwena), Timo Shikongo (Oshikango), Laban Kanyiki (Engela), Pohamba Nghiitete (Ongenga), and Pius Hafeni (Endola).
The RDP had also registered candidates for the Local Authority Election, scheduled for the same day, in the Ohangwena Regions two towns of Helao Nafidi and Eenhana, as well as in the newly established Okongo village.
The party currently has one councillor each on the Swapo-dominated town councils of Helao Nafidi and Eenhana.
These councillors are Frieda Kashikatu (Helao Nafidi) and Walter Ndakondja (Eenhana).
Coordinator of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) for the Ohangwena Region, Lysias Haiduwa told Nampa on Wednesday that elections in the Ohangwena Region will be a three-horse race between the RDP, DTA of Namibia and Swapo.
Speaking to Nampa at Oshakati on Monday, coordinator of the DTA in the Ohangwena Region, Hidipo Hamata said his party is contesting the Regional Council Election only at the Oshikango and Ohangwena constituencies, as well as the Local Authority Election at Helao Nafidi and Okongo.
