The Swapo Party has urged its members and supporters to rally behind the party's candidates who will take part in the Regional Council and Local Authority elections slated for 27 November 2015. Speaking at a media conference here on Thursday, Swapo Secretary for Information and Publicity, Helmut Angula said: "We urge all our party structures, wings and members to rally behind the Swapo candidates in their respective regions and local authorities to ensure a resounding victory for the party".

He assured party members and the nation at large that Swapo will never compromise on its principles and code of conduct of nonviolent elections, to ensure economic and political stability for Namibia.

"These are our core values which we shall definitely pass on to the next generation of Swapo party leaders," said Angula.

The party has nominated and registered 98 candidates for the Regional Council and Local Authority elections in all 121 constituencies countrywide. The remaining candidates will be nominated on Thursday, he said.

All party members are expected to conform to the provisions of the party's constitution, political programme, code of conduct and directives, and all national election procedures.

Swapo will launch its election campaign on Saturday. Various political parties have been conducting primary elections countrywide to elect candidates to represent their political parties in the forthcoming elections.

The deadline set by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) for political parties to register their candidates for both elections is Friday, 16 October 2015.
