Reggie Diergaardt jumps ship to DTA

WINDHOEK, 15 OCT (NAMPA) - Former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Reggie Diergaardt has left the Swapo Party and joined the DTA of Namibia.
The DTA's acting Secretary-General, Elma Dienda announced Diergaardt's membership at a media conference here on Thursday.
Diergaardt was also introduced as the official opposition party's candidate for the Windhoek East Constituency in the upcoming elections.
He was leader of the Labour Party in the late 1980s and a founding member of the United Democratic Front (UDF). The veteran politician was a member of the Constituent Assembly, and represented the UDF in the National Assembly (NA) from 1990 to 1995.
Diergaardt also served as Deputy Minister of Sport from 1990 to 1995.
He left politics to pursue business interests and returned in 2005 when he joined the Swapo Party and was appointed as the sixth nominee to the NA by former President Hifikepunye Pohamba.
He has been a member of the ruling party for 15 years.
