Ambunda to defend world title in Dec.

14 Oct 2015 19:50pm
WINDHOEK, 14 OCT (NAMPA) – Namibia's International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Super Bantamweight World champion, Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda will have his first title defence against Australia's Jason 'Nugget' Cooper here on 05 December 2015.
Ambunda made a historic comeback by becoming world champion for the second time after losing his first world title to Japan's Tomoki Kameda two years ago.
Ambunda beat Leandro Esperante of Argentina for the vacant title in August this year in Windhoek.
Speaking at a media briefing in the capital on Wednesday, Ambunda's promoter, Nestor Tobias, said they have been in the ring and training hard to get the boxer fit.
“We have enough time to prepare and carefully study the opponent so that we can put up an effective fight come 05 December.
“We have seen Ambunda's opponent; he is a tough boxer who is currently ranked ninth in the world, but we will be ready when the day arrives,” said Tobias.
Cooper has an impressive record of being a two-time Queensland Featherweight Champion in 2011 and 2012, Asia Pacific Champion in 2013 and 2014, and World Boxing Association (WBA) Oceanic Champion.
He has a record of 17 fights (14 wins, two losses and one draw), while Ambunda has a record of 24 fights (23 wins, one loss).
Tobias further called on other corporate companies to come on board and make this fight a spectacular one.
The Nestor Sunshine Tobias Fitness Academy will use N.dollars 3 million to stage this event.
Other boxers to fight on the night are Sacky Shikukutu and Bethuel ‘Tyson’ Uusona.
