WINDHOEK, 14 OCT (NAMPA) – Brave Warriors Assistant Coach Ronny Kanalelo says the team will be ready to face Guinea in its next round of the 2018 Russia World Cup preliminary round qualifiers.
The senior national football team beat Gambia 2-1 here on Tuesday in its 2018 International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) World Cup preliminary qualifiers to progress to the next round.
They will now face Guinea in further qualifying games on 09 and 17 November 2015.
Namibia and Guinea have already played twice against each other in the 1994/95 African Nations Cup (Afcon) qualifiers.
Guinea won one game, and the other ended in a draw.
Speaking at a media briefing after Tuesday's game, Kanalelo said as coaches their job is to prepare their teams to the best of their abilities and compete with whoever they face.
“We always prepare teams to win games and when we face Guinea it will be a game of 11 players a side despite them having most of their players based in Europe.
“We played Senegal before who also have players based in Europe and we did a good job. The same applies to Gambia who we just defeated - all their players are based in Europe,” said Kanalelo.
The coach added that the only thing the team has to worry about is minimising on their mistakes and starting to capitalise on all the chances they create.
“Football is about confidence and we have a team of young footballers who are growing in confidence every time they step onto the field to represent their country.
“We are happy that we are facing more of these West African countries as this will help our players grow mentally, get used to the weather on the other side and gain more experience playing against these players who have European experience,” Kanalelo stated.
