Walvis Bay Court officials appear on charges of fraud

WALVIS BAY, 17 AUG (NAMPA) – Three court officials suspected of fraud made their first appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Johanna Noreses,36; Bertha Hipundjua,36; and Ottilie Mutumbulua,46; each appeared separately before Magistrate Andre Matulich on charges of contravening Section 43 Sub-section 1 of the Anti-Corruption Act, as well as defeating and/or obstructing the course of justice, and theft alternatively fraud.
They were arrested earlier this week.
During their court appearances, the State opposed bail, and postponed the matter to 16 September pending further police investigations.
Noreses was found in possession of 1 180 traffic tickets and 300 Warrants of Arrest for traffic violations.
The other two court officials were also found with traffic tickets in their possession, although the exact quantity is not known.
The matter attracted a lot of attention, as the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court was closed on Wednesday, with both members of the public and court officials denied entry to the building.
The closure of the court building resulted in all court proceedings being halted for the day.
