OPUWO, 10 OCT (NAMPA) – Some parents of learners at the Alpha Combined School in Opuwo are threatening to boycott the school board election if they are not presented with the financial records of the school.
The election is scheduled for 19 October 2015.
According to the group, principal Karina Muhuka fired the school board when it enquired about a donation of N.dollars 300 000 received from Alfred Flueckiger from Switzerland.
The parents further allege that three years ago, learners had to pay N.dollars 300 to repair the ceilings in some of the rooms in the hostel, but nothing has apparently been done to date.
Speaking to Nampa on Friday, Muhuka acknowledged receipt of the donation from Flueckiger, but denied that the money had been misappropriated.
“We received the money in three phases and we used it accordingly,” he said.
The principal said the money was used to paint the school, buy chairs for the staff room and the laboratory, as well as for the renovation of the kitchen.
Muhuka informed this agency that auditors assessed their books on four different occasions and no irregularities were detected.
He views the parents’ accusations as defamation of character and threatens to take legal action.
