LANGSTRAND, 07 OCT (NAMPA) - A 42-year-old Walvis Bay man died in a car accident at Langstrand between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay on Tuesday afternoon.
Kondjeni Shaalukeni lost his life when a Toyota pick-up he was a passenger on together with six fellow construction workers, collided with a Volkswagen Polo hatchback and overturned.
The workers were on the back of the pick-up when the accident happened between 17h00 and 18h00.
The pick-up’s driver and three other men sustained multiple injuries and are now in the Walvis Bay State Hospital.
Their health condition is stable.
Other passengers, including the driver of the Polo, were not injured.
Detective Chief Inspector of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Walvis Bay, Erastus Iikuyu and Detective Inspector, John Mwatongwe confirmed the incident on Wednesday.
Iikuyu said the accident report shows the two vehicles were travelling from Swakopmund towards Walvis Bay.
He said the pick-up’s driver allegedly attempted to overtake the Polo on the right while it (Polo) was turning into Langstrand and as such, the two collided causing the pick-up to overturn.
“A case of culpable homicide and negligent driving was registered. As soon as the driver of the pick-up is released from hospital, chances are that he will be arrested and charged,” said Iikuyu.
The next of kin of the deceased were informed on Tuesday.
