WINDHOEK, 14 AUG (NAMPA) - The Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL) has been elected to represent African youth on the International Organising Committee (IOC) for the World Festival of Youth and Students taking place in Ecuador later this year.
The World Festival of Youth and Students is an event organised by the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) where world youth gather to articulate their issues, propose policies and share experiences of anti-imperialist, leftist and pro-poor struggles around the world.
This decision to include the SPYL was taken at a recent WFDY meeting which took place in Luanda, Angola on 09 August 2013, said SPYL spokesperson Job Amupanda in a statement availed to Nampa here on Wednesday.
“The trust that the world youth placed in the militant and radical SPYL does not come as a surprise as it is known internationally as an organisation consisting of leaders who command clarity on international historical developments, international politics and ideological perspectives,” he said.
Amupanda said SPYL leaders are exposed to international events, and are often called upon by world youth and other institutions to provide opinions and perspectives on world problems.
The youth leader explained that the decision to take up bona fide membership of the WFDY was made several years ago with a view to intensify the SPYL’s anti-colonial and anti-imperialist struggles and conduct its internationalist obligations.
Amupanda thanked the world youth for the assignment, and promised to perform their duties to the best of their ability in the interest of world youth and their struggle to have a just and harmonious world.
