Blue Jet and Oshakati Social Club win Facebook tourney

ONGWEDIVA, 22 SEP (NAMPA) -



The second team of the Blue Jet Football Club (FC) from Karibib in the Erongo Region and the Oshakati Social Club from the Oshana Region are the champions of the 2015 Facebook Sports Tournament.



One of the organisers of the tournament, Sammy Mushelenga provided Nampa the outcome of the event sponsored by the Ondangwa-based Facebook Bar in a telephonic interview on Monday.



The fifth edition of the now popular northern annual football and netball event concluded its activities at the Andimba Toivo ya Toivo sport stadium in Ondangwa on Saturday.



Blue Jet FC B-side handed their Ondangwa-based opponents, Constantine FC, a 3-1 defeat in the youth football final, while the Oshakati Social Club beat Sammy and Friends 5-4 on penalties in the veterans' category.



The match between Oshakati Social Club and Sammy and Friends had to be decided on penalties after the two teams played to a 2-all draw during regular time.



Blue Jet FC B, as this year's champions in the youth football event, was awarded a floating trophy, 30 gold medals and N.dollars 7 000, while Constantine, as runners-up, received 30 silver medals and N.dollars 4 000. The third prize of 30 bronze medals and N.dollars 1 500 went to Blue Jet FC A-side, and the fourth prize of N.dollars 1 500 was given to Ondangwa-based Huhu City FC.



Oshakati Social Club, as the champions in the veterans' football, scooped a similar first prize of N.dollars 7 000, 30 gold medals and a floating trophy, and Sammy and Friends, as runners-up, took home N.dollars 4 000 and 30 silver medals.



Eenhana Legend FC from Ohangwena Region got N.dollars 1 500 and 30 bronze in the third position of the veterans' category and the Ondangwa Legend FC walked away with a prize worth N.dollars 1 500 in the fourth position of the same category.



The netball discipline of the tournament, which was won by Composite Depot FC of the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) in Windhoek, concluded two weekends ago.



A certificate of participation sponsored by NewMed, a pharmaceutical company at Ongwediva, was given to each of 26 teams in the youth category and 14 veterans' teams.
