TransNamib’s Desert Express in Accident

 

TransNamib wishes to inform the public that its Desert Express train en route to Swakopmund  was involved in an accident yesterday, 14th September 2015 around 18H00 in Okahandja (Hodygos). The train collided against a truck, which attempted to cross the railway.

 

According to Struggle Ihuhua, Executive Spokesperson of TransNamib, “fortunately, the Desert Express did not derail. The 56 crew and passengers on board were unharmed. However, the locomotive suffered minor damages. The cost of the damage is yet to be established”.

 

The rail service between Okahandja and Windhoek is now restored and is in full operation.
