Double efforts on illegal hunting- Govt
The cabinet has urged security forces to double efforts in apprehending criminals involved in the illegal hunting of the country’s wildlife.
Tjekero Tweya, Minister of Information and Technology said that multiplied efforts will go a long way to restore law and order on the protection of our environment with regard to our natural resources such as the plants and animals.
“Cabinet approves and further commends the collaboration and team work being carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET), Safety and Security, Defence and the Namibian Central Intelligence Services (NCIS) in the illegal hunting of our wildlife. It directs the MET to make use of technology to monitor and assist security personnel in the apprehending the suspected poachers, noting the progress in the establishment of an anti- poaching unit within MET,” Tweya said.
Cabinet is also concerned that the ban of the trophy hunting may have negative impact on the Namibian wildlife conservation, as funds generated from trophy hunting are utilized for the conservation of wildlife.
