Two cars plummet off bridges in Windhoek

WINDHOEK, 30 AUG (NAMPA) – One person died while three others were rushed to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital with injuries after the vehicle they were in drove off a bridge on Saturday.
The incident occurred at about 22h15 when a Ford Ranger double cab fell off the bridge along Windhoek’s Independence Avenue after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Police at the scene informed Nampa that the driver of the vehicle was travelling in a western direction from town towards Katutura when he lost control and his vehicle left the road.
One of the passengers was thrown out of the vehicle and died at the scene, while the driver and two other occupants in the vehicle sustained injuries and are reported to be in a stable condition.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Inspector Pendukeni Haikali told a media briefing here on Sunday the deceased was identified as Timotheus Nghangulwa, age unknown.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
In another incident, a man also lost control of his vehicle, causing it to drive off a bridge on the service road that runs between the Katutura Intermediate Hospital and Windhoek Central Hospital.
City Police Senior Superintendent, Adam Eiseb confirmed the accident, saying it occurred at about 02h30.
He said the driver allegedly lost control and hit the railings of the bridge before the vehicle fell, landing on Mahatma Gandhi Road near the Windhoek Correctional Facility.
The driver sustained injuries and was rushed to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
