Tulimeke Munyika is MTC chairperson
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has approved the appointment of Tulimeke Munyika as chairperson of the Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC).
Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, MICT minister Tjekero Tweya said that “This is not a symbolic 50/50 representation appointment, but Munyika was chosen because she is skilled. She is a lawyer by profession and has had incredible success at the Ministry of Home Affairs.”
Munyika will be joined by new members to the MTC board, Dr. Marius Kudumo who also serves as the director of international relations at the Polytechnic of Namibia, and Asser Ntinda who is the editor of the ruling party’s Swapo today. Meanwhile, speaking on the appointment of Festus Mbandeka as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), Tweya stressed the need for a nationwide network coverage.
“I am not interested in hearing how expensive it is to provide a network. 14-18 months is the longest we should allow to have nationwide network coverage. Don’t use the fee as an excuse to continue to deny Namibians service. Do not allow scrupulous businesses into the market to rob customers,” said the minister.
