Namibia's Armas ends 25th in marathon

WINDHOEK, 10 AUG (NAMPA) – Namibian long-distance runner Alina Armas ended 25th in the women’s marathon on Saturday as part of the IAAF World Championships underway in Moskva, Russia.
Armas, 30, was the best performing Namibian in the race.
She finished the 42-kilometre race in a time of two hours 45 minutes and 09 seconds (2:45.09).
Seventy runners lined for the race and 23 did not finish, including three other Namibians – Beata Naigambo, Helalia Johannes and Leena Ekandjo.
Namibian sprinter, Tjipekapora Herunga qualified for the semi-finals of the 400m women’s race when she finished as the fastest loser in Heat 5 on Saturday.
Herunga recorded her season’s best in 52.01 seconds.
Hitjiverua Kaanjuka will be in action on Friday in the 200m for men.
