WINDHOEK, 23 AUG (NAMPA) – A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two 13- and 16-year-old boys on Friday at the Okaku ka’ Umbi Village in the Oshikuku Constituency.
“Both suspects were arrested after the victim’s mother caught the boys in a sleeping hut when she saw the girl running out of the hut,” said Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Inspector Slogan Matheus during a media conference on Sunday.
NamPol at Oshikuku are investigating the incident.
The suspects were charged with rape, and released into parental care. They will appear on Monday in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court.
In another incident, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a taxi driver at the Okatana Village in the Oshakati area on Friday.
The victim told Police the taxi driver twisted one of her arms and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her inside the vehicle. The suspect fled the scene and is still at large. Police investigations continue.
NamPol in the Omusati Region are looking into the death of a five-year-old girl who burned to death after the homestead she was in caught fire on Saturday at the Onkaankaa Village in the Otamanzi Constituency.
It is alleged that the girl’s parents left her and her four-year-old brother at home alone; the father went to a family wedding while the mother went to a nearby cuca shop.
The boy escaped unhurt from the blaze and ran to the cuca shop to inform his mother. It was however too late to save the girl, said Matheus, adding that when villagers arrived at the scene, the homestead was already burned to ashes.
“The cause of fire is unknown at this stage. The remains of the deceased was transported to the Okahao Police Mortuary,” he said.
