ONGWEDIVA, 18 AUG (NAMPA) – The lifeless body of a newborn baby was discovered by cleaners of the Welco Recycling Company at Ongwediva’s waste dumping site on Tuesday morning.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) officers were immediately called in to conduct on-the-spot investigations and learned that the dumped baby is female.
A mattress, on which the mother probably delivered the baby, was discovered separately on the same dumpsite.
The baby was found wrapped in an orange coloured plastic shopping bag.
The municipality’s waste removers said they collected the bloodstained mattress from a house in the town.
“I discovered the baby’s body immediately after the truck dropped off the waste, which contained the plastic bag and called my colleagues to witness my discovery,” said Welco cleaner, Hilma Uukongo.
NamPol investigation officers indicated that a young lady, who is suspected to be the mother, was already apprehended at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital where she went for medical treatment.
