WINDHOEK, 10 AUG (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police recorded four incidents of rape in the Oshikoto, Kavango East, Ohangwena and Oshana regions this past weekend.
Spokesperson for the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Inspector Slogan Matheus told a media briefing here on Sunday that a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her half brother at Omuunda village in the Onkumbula area at Onayena on Thursday.
The incident occurred at about 21h00 when the 20-year-old suspect allegedly found the victim in her bedroom and threatened to beat her with a stick.
He then allegedly had sexual intercourse with the minor, without her consent.
The suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s court on Monday.
A 27-year-old Angolan national, who is five months pregnant, was allegedly raped by an unknown suspect at Onekwaya West in the Ohangwena Region on Friday.
The incident occurred at about 00h00 when the suspect went to the victim’s house, entered her bedroom and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
The suspect fled the scene and is still at large.
In the Oshana Region, a woman was allegedly raped by two men at Oshakati West on Friday at about 22h00.
According to NamPol, the 26-year-old victim allegedly travelled from her village to Oshakati to meet her boyfriend at Okatana Service Station.
Upon her arrival, she called her boyfriend to inform him that she had arrived and while she was busy on her phone, one of the suspects grabbed her phone and walked off to a nearby house.
The woman allegedly followed the suspect to the house and entered a room, demanding for the suspect to return her cell phone.
The suspect then allegedly grabbed the victim, forced himself onto her and had sexual intercourse without her consent. He then left the room whereupon the second suspect, who is also the owner of the room, entered and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
Both suspects were arrested and are due to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In another incident, a case of attempted rape has been opened against a 26-year-old man in the Kavango East region.
It is alleged that the suspect followed a 20 year-old woman who was walking home from a bar at around 20h00 on Friday.
The suspect allegedly approached the woman from behind, kicked her down with his knees and lay on top of her.
He then proceeded to unzip his trouser with the intention to have sexual intercourse with the victim.
It is however not clear what transpired for the rape not to be carried out.
The suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Rundu Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
