Food distribution to individuals, not per households anymore

WINDHOEK, 06 AUG (NAMPA) – Food relief, including relish, for drought-affected people will now be given to individuals, and no longer to households as was the case before.
The Swapo-Party Politburo, which met on Monday, approved this, Swapo-Party Secretary-General Nangolo Mbumba said during a media briefing on Tuesday.
He said the Politburo received an update on the drought situation in the country from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), with specific focus on food distribution and water provision.
“It noted with satisfaction the efforts of Government in addressing the drought situation,” Mbumba stated.
He said the Politburo noted the logistical challenges associated with food distribution, which include inadequate transport, long distances to distribution points, inaccessibility of some settlements as well as inadequate storage facilities.
Mbumba said the Ministry of Defence has so far availed transport and human resources to the OPM to be used in food distribution.
