The Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre presents the opening of Namibian artist Romeo Sinkala’s exhibition “The return of the fundi” at FNCC’s restaurant La bonne table on August 3rd at 18h30.
Fundi is a Bantu word that in many Bantu languages translates to wise-one, teacher, skilled artisan or simply a person with special knowledge about a subject or life.
To be a fundi takes dedication and time; many of us are striving to be in some form wise or knowledgeable about our fields.
As a graphic artist Romeo Sinkala’s art continually seeks wisdom, heritage, cultural and African identity. As illustrator of Jahohora (which will be discussed in our Art Talk – 24th August), Sinkala sees the importance in telling OUR stories.
As an artist the only way he describes his world is with these words:
I am a lost soul, a restless heart
seeking for my talents, for my face in the many shadows
not in the light.
Seeking not to be found, but to understand why I am lost.
