ONGWEDIVA, 30 JUL (NAMPA) – Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region, Warrant Officer Thomas Aiyambo has confirmed that a man was shot and killed near Ongwediva at around 02h15 this morning.
The deceased has only been identified as “Shafa” and is said to be from Oshakati’s Oshoopala informal settlement.
Another man, identified as Absalom Mvula, 22, was also shot and seriously injured in the same incident.
He is now admitted to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital in the intensive care unit (ICU) and is in critical condition.
According to Aiyambo, the two had broken into a bar at Oshinyadhila village No.4 on the outskirts of Ongwediva along with two other men.
The deceased attempted to shoot the bar owner, who then returned fire, hitting the deceased.
Mvula was shot and severely injured whilst hiding behind the door of the bar, while the other two suspects who were outside the building ran away. They remain at large.
“There was a bullet in the chamber of the deceased’s pistol,” Aiyambo explained, adding several tools that the suspects used to break into the building were also found at the scene.
The deceased was also found in possession of two knives.
Aiyambo said thieves often target jackpot machines and jukeboxes when they break into businesses such as bars.
