WINDHOEK, 30 JUL (NAMPA) – Rehoboth’s Dr Lemmer High School were crowned the rugby champions for the seventh time in a row in the First National Bank (FNB) Classic Clashes last Wednesday.
Dr Lemmer beat MK Gertze High School, also from Rehoboth, 50-6 in the last rugby match of the 2015 FNB Classic Clashes.
The FNB Classic Clashes were first introduced in 2008 and have since become one of the most sought-after sporting events amongst high school learners as they face each other in the sports codes of football, rugby and netball.
A media statement availed to Nampa on Wednesday by tournament sponsor FNB quotes the bank’s Manager of Corporate Communications Vicky Muranda as saying Dr Lemmer High School proved why they have been crowned the FNB Classic Clashes rugby champions for the seventh year in a row.
“They proved too strong for MK Gertze High School and their hard running players were a pleasure to watch in action,” she said.
John Carl Hess of Dr Lemmer won the Namib Mills Hero title for academics and sports, while Centre Hillian Beukes, also of Dr Lemmer High School, was FNB Man of the Match.
Muranda added that on 04, 11 and 12 September the last football games will be played, while the last rugby game is tentatively set for 19 September 2015.
