OTJIWARONGO, 21 JUL (NAMPA) – Okakarara Constituency Councillor, Vetaruhe Kandorozu was on Sunday unanimously elected as representative of the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo), in his constituency during the Regional and Local Authority Elections slated for November 2015.
Kandorozu has been Okakarara Councillor for the past 10 years on a Nudo ticket.
Nudo Secretary-General (SG), Meundju Jahanika told Nampa in an interview on Monday Kandorozu was unanimously elected after his opponent, Theobald Kariua, failed to show up at an elective congress that took place at a village near Okamatapati on Sunday afternoon.
Jahanika said Nudo has five political branches in the Okakarara Constituency and Kariua only received support of the Okondjatu branch that nominated him to compete against Kandorozu.
“I think Mr Kariua realised the little support he enjoyed and he then decided not to turn up at the congress. Kandorozu was supported by four of the five branches in the entire constituency.” Jahanika said.
Nudo Election Director, Vincent Kahua supervised the internal elections on Sunday, Jahanika said.
He said a total of 150 Nudo members from five branches in the Okakarara Constituency participated in the party’s internal primary elections on Sunday.
Jahanika is a Member of Parliament (MP) and Nudo Chief Whip.
He declared his party’s internal elections to have been free, fair and credible.
Nudo on Sunday held a public campaign rally at the same village shortly after Kandorozu was announced winner of the internal party primary elections.
Nudo President, Asser Mbai attended both the internal elective congress and party rally.
