WINDHOEK, 15 JUL (NAMPA) - Windhoek Harriers Walking and Running Club and Nedbank Namibia are calling on long distance runners to register for this year’s Windhoek City Run.
The annual event will this year take place on Sunday (19 July), from Zoo Park in Independence Avenue.
A media statement availed to Nampa by Nedbank Namibia on Tuesday said Windhoek Harriers Running Club has teamed up with Nedbank to bring Windhoek an exhilarating running event that everyone can participate in.
Runners can sign up through the Windhoek Harriers Walking and Running Club, which has been hosting the event for three years.
Chief Operating Officer of Nedbank Namibia Life, Elaine Schlechter said Nedbank is proud to be teaming up with the club, and in the coming years they will aspire to bring Namibia a marathon event that can rival the Nedbank Comrades Ultra Marathon.
“We encourage everyone to enter. The prizes for the Nedbank City Run total more than N.dollars 50 000 and everyone finishing before the cut-off time will be awarded a finisher’s medal,” she said.
Susan Gordon from the Windhoek walking and running club encouraged runners to take part.
“This is a very important running event for the club and through Nedbank’s support, we are able to reach athletes and promote running in Namibia,” said Gordon.
The race this year will include running distances of 42.2 km, 21.1 km and 10 km, and walking distances of 21.1 km and 10 km.
Late entries will be done on Saturday from 14h00 to16h00 in front of Old Mutual Towers.
