Two children dead in Outapi hut fire

WINDHOEK, 12 JUL (NAMPA) – Two children died after the hut they were sleeping in caught fire and burned down on Thursday in the Omupandaula village at Outapi.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Spokesperson, Slogan Matheus told a media briefing here on Sunday that Magano Ndapandula Kapatanua, 12, burned to death inside the hut, while six-year-old Johannes Godfried Johannes succumbed to his injuries on Friday at the Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and police investigations into the matter continue.
In a separate incident, the body of an elderly woman was found in a water canal on Saturday at the Ombathi village of the Onamulenge Constituency in the Omusati Region.
The deceased, Rosamune Namutumbo, 77, was last seen on Friday at about 21h00.
Her body was taken to the Okahao Police Mortuary for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Her next of kin have been informed.
Meanwhile, three people took their own lives this past weekend in the Omusati, Omaheke and Zambezi regions.
Daniel Willem, 31, was discovered dead on Saturday in his bedroom at the Onameke village in the Oshikuku Constituency of Ogongo in the Omusati Region.
Willem allegedly hanged himself from a wire attached to his bedroom’s ceiling. He was found by a 13-year-old neighbour, who came to watch television at his house at about 20h00.
No suicide note was found at the scene and police investigations into the matter continue.
Simasiku Mundia, 21, also allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a belt attached to a tree behind the Greenwell Matongo Location in Katima Mulilo, Zambezi Region.
The deceased’s body was discovered during the early hours of Saturday by a passerby.
No suicide note was found and police investigations continue.
In the Omaheke Region, a man was found hanging from a wire attached to a tree on Saturday at about 10h00 at the Okombahe village in the Corridor 13 area.
Matheus said the motive behind the suicide is not known but it is alleged that the deceased, identified as Naro Slippie, 29, also attempted to commit suicide a year ago.
His next of kin have been informed and police investigations into the matter continue.
