The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration makes reference to an article by NAMPA dated 8 July 2015 on the imminent termination of refugee status in respect of Namibian Refugees in Dukwi, Botswana.
The article is titled “Process to cease refugee status should not be politicised” and quotes comments by Mr Nkrumah Mushelenga who spoke in his capacity as Commissioner for Refugees. Additionally, the comments purport to be made on behalf of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration and/or the Government of the Republic of Namibia at large. Alternatively, such comments may erroneously be attributed to this Ministry or the Government.
The public is hereby informed that Mr Nkrumah Mushelenga is no longer a staff member of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration as a result of his retirement from the Public Service on 30th June 2015. Mr Mushelenga no longer has authority to speak on issues relevant to the operations of the Ministry in particular and the Government of the Republic of Namibia in general as he is no longer the Commissioner of Refugees.
It is for this reason that the Ministry hereby disassociates itself from the comments made by Mr Nkrumah Mushelenga.
